Cliff Point Residence

This high-impact remodel and addition began with a client recommendation of a residence designed by TDG Architecture decades ago. The home is sited atop a beautiful site that overlooks a small, wooded scene, and was our focal point with redirecting, and opening the interior, towards this view. The existing home’s style held such interesting shapes and materials that our new design work attempted to complement the reasons why the client’s purchased the home in the first place.
The owners needed a much larger kitchen for their family, casual eat-in area, more circulation space at the home’s entry, and much-desired outdoor spaces on the main and walk-out level. A lantern of light was located just above the new casual eating area, letting in more light, and allowing for the continuation of interesting ceiling heights and shapes that the existing home has. The main level’s outdoor space feels perched to gain as many views of the woods as possible and wraps around the new addition to provide a connection to the existing balcony nearer to the living room. Another point of connection from new to existing is seen in a new side entry bridge. This second entry gave the family new access to a light-filled atrium centered on a whimsical spiral staircase. As the staircase brings one downstairs, there is a new spa-like bathroom with Japanese soaking tub. Also downstairs, is a remodeled bedroom and new space allocated for a personal office. A hidden element of this design is in the energy efficiency. The previously-clad wood siding was removed to make way for increased insulation, new windows, and new stucco.
Our teamwork with Kiva Construction, both during the design process and during construction, realized TDG’s design and created a fantastic new home for the family. The ability of having a skilled and crafted contractor on board during the entire process makes for a highly successful project.
